    Questions and Answers

    1. Am I candidate for one of your services? How do I get started?

Answer: Most men and woman with hair loss or head scars are likely candidates for one or more of our services. For example, if you are able to cover the thinning or light area with makeup our Specialized SMP services could be ideal for you as a wonderful alternative to hair transplants. Our Medical SMP can also be used in conjunction with hair transplants for added density. Just email us a photo and we’ll review your personal situation. We offer complimentary consultations which can be your choice of an in-person consultation or consultation via FaceTime or Skype.

    2. Does Artistic Hair Simulation, which is a specialized Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (SMP), look natural?

    Answer:
Yes, if you are a good candidate and an experienced person is doing the work. We have been in the industry for almost twenty years. If done by someone not properly trained, the results can look very unnatural and are not easily removed. SMP is very natural-looking as long as your hair is cut properly, so that the SMP blends with your existing hair. SMP is not hair, so our professionals will instruct you on how to best maintain and cut your hair so that it looks the best.

    3. Is Hair Simulation permanent?

Answer: Legally, we must use the term “permanent,” even though most Micro-Pigmentation will fade over time and may require periodic touch ups. Naturally, lighter colors fade more quickly than very dark or black colors, but a lot depends on how well you take care of your scalp.

Areas with transplant scars have a tendency to fade more quickly because a scar is not healthy tissue and does not hold the ink as well as healthy skin.

    4. Is this a one-time procedure?

Answer: No, it can take several sessions and yearly follow-ups depending on what you want to achieve. The number of required sessions tends to increase in cases of head scars because scars can reject up to fifty percent of the ink after the first session. Again, just email us a photo and we’ll review your personal situation.

    5. How much does Hair Simulation cost?

    Answer:
Most of our clients find our services to be very affordable, but the cost will depend on the number of sessions required to camouflage your problem area. After we’ve reviewed your photo, we’ll be glad to discuss your goals, options, and cost estimate with you. Hair Simulation costs less than traditional hair transplants.

    6. Does Hair Simulation hurt?

    Answer:
We do everything possible to make you comfortable, but it depends on who is doing the procedure and how sensitive your scalp is. When done properly, there should be very minimal pain similar to tiny pin pricks. For our clients with extra sensitive scalps, we use a numbing cream to ensure their comfort. On the other hand, if the practitioner is heavy handed and unskilled, cosmetic tattooing can be very painful. The more area covered in one session, the more painful it can be. We offer mini-sessions for those with scalp sensitivity.

    7. Do I need to shave my head?

Answer: It depends on what you want to achieve. Some clients who do not need to shave their heads include most pre-treatment clients who plan to hide a scar and currently use makeup for coverage, as well as those with transplants who wish only to enhance the area. Conversely, pre-treatment clients with bald areas might be directed to shave their heads. In either case, we will guide you about your pre-treatment options after reviewing your photo.

    8. I have scars on my head and I wear a hat or cover my scar with makeup. Can Medical SMP help?

    Answer:
Yes, Medical SMP will help scars to appear less noticeable, and you will see an improvement. This service can take several sessions because scars do not hold the ink the same way normal healthy skin does.

    9. I have scars on my head from a transplant and I want to shave after the procedure. Can I shave and look normal again?

    Answer:
This is a very difficult question, and the answer will depend on the number and physical characteristics of any scars you have. It can take several sessions to hide head scars. Some companies may say this is not a problem, but that has not been our experience. This is because some scars are harder to cover and results will vary from one individual to another. Although it can take several sessions to hide scars, tattooing will make them less noticeable and our clients normally see a great improvement. We will discuss your options after we have reviewed your photos.

    12. Are the inks the same as what a tattoo artist uses, and are cosmetic inks dangerous?

Answer: An experienced and talented artist will know the proper inks to use. Some cosmetic and tattoo inks can work very well, while others can turn blue or green or look unnatural. It is the cosmetic artist who must be qualified and knowledgeable about which inks, needles, and machines are appropriate for each procedure. We are trained professionals and will determine which ink is the best for your service.

    13. What will the healing process be like during the first month?

Answer: Generally speaking, there may be some swelling the day after the treatment and the scalp will appear dark for the first few days. After that, the scalp will start to peel and flake and the color will appear light or hazy. Peeling lasts about a week and tends to be worse the first time, so you may want to wear a hat. The total healing process takes approximately four to eight weeks. By then, you will be ready for your second treatment. We offer mini-sessions that heal quicker. DO NOT schedule your treatment during a time period in which you have important events because it takes a few weeks to heal and look its best. The procedure can be done a little at a time so that it is not as noticeable during the healing phase. Remember, you will have to follow the aftercare instructions and cut your hair as instructed for the best results.

    15. How can I keep my SMP looking its best?

Answer: Following the procedure, we will give you instructions on the proper way to have your barber or stylist cut your hair. If your stylist or barber is not skilled, your tattoo will not look as good as it could. Our experts can also work directly with your barber or stylist to ensure that post-treatment cuts compliment your new look. We will also instruct you on how to cut your own hair if needed.

    16. What if I lose more hair?

Answer: No problem. The SMP only stays in areas that do not have hair, so if you lose more hair, you can come back for a fill-in.

    17. What if my hair turns gray?

Answer: Depending on how your gray hair is distributed, you may want to tint your hair for a more natural look. Sometimes gray hair is evenly distributed with a “salt and pepper” look; and other times, it grows in particular areas first, like at the sides and temples. We will advise you about your options after reviewing your photo. If you keep your hair cut low, the gray hairs show up like tiny sparkles and blend great with your SMP. We suggest keeping your hair cut very low or using a rinse.

    18. Can I get an infection?

Answer. An infection can occur if the after-care instructions are not followed. Cutting your hair before the scalp is healed, using non-sterile blades or tools, or using harsh chemicals before your tattoo is healed are just a few examples of actions that can lead to infection. If an irritation or infection occurs, you need to contact us immediately and stay in contact until the issue is resolved.

    19. Once the procedure is complete, do I need to come back?

Answer: You should check your SMP every few years to make sure the color is looking fresh and natural.

    20. What are some of the After Care instructions?

    Answer:

*Do not scrub or put any chemicals on your head for 10 days. Rinsing with cool water is permissible. *Use the ointment and oil we issue to you for 10 days

    * The tattoo will lighten over a 2-week period and full results can be seen in 4 weeks. At this time, you will come back for your second treatment. *Again, do not rub the treated skin or get any chemicals on the area until it is healed (at least 10 days).

    * Do not pick or scratch the tattooed area.

    * Do not wear makeup or color your hair for 4 weeks.

    * Avoid harsh chemicals or Retin A as this may cause the color to fade or discolor.

    * Avoid chlorinated pools and tanning beds for at least 1 week.

    * Do not use an antibiotic ointment.

    * Do not cut your hair until it is healed. We will let you know when it is safe to cut your hair. Once we’ve given the go ahead, make sure your barber or stylist uses disinfected tools and implements.

    * Let us know immediately if any irritation occurs and stay in contact with us until the issue is resolved.
