Hair Restoration With Our Team at HRS Atlanta

One team · Two specialties

Who does what

Hair Simulation specializes in the SMP part of our team’s work. Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) adds the look of fuller hair, a crisp hairline or density between hairs, and it helps transplant scars blend in. Our SMP work includes hairline design refinement, density fill between grafts and donor-scar camouflage.

Hair Restoration Specialists of Atlanta (HRS Atlanta) covers the rest: surgical hair transplants (FUE, no-shave FUE and FUT), non-surgical treatments such as PRP and low-level laser therapy, and the medical evaluation that comes first. HRS Atlanta is listed at the same address as us: 6065 Roswell Road, Suite 300, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Their site says they offer free consultations, in office or virtual.

One call reaches both: (404) 229-7372.

Below is our own short overview of what HRS Atlanta offers, written in plain English so you can explore everything in one place. For our side of the work, see SMP for Men, SMP for Women, Medical SMP for Transplant Scars and Hair Transplant + SMP.

What HRS Atlanta Offers, in Brief

FUE hair transplant

What FUE means

FUE stands for follicular unit extraction. Small groups of hair, usually one to four hairs each, are taken one by one from a donor area at the back of the scalp with a tiny punch tool. They are then placed into the thinning areas at angles planned to match the way your hair grows.

How the day goes

  • A consultation comes first, to look at your hair loss pattern, check your donor area and estimate how many grafts you need.
  • The procedure is done under local anesthesia in a single outpatient day.
  • No strip of skin is removed and no stitches are needed, so HRS Atlanta says the donor area heals within days.
  • A partial or no-shave version is available. See our No-Shave FUE summary.

Growth timeline

HRS Atlanta says new growth usually appears around three months, and the result keeps developing over roughly the next nine months. Donor hair from the back of the head resists DHT, the hormone behind pattern hair loss, which is why HRS describes the transplanted hair as permanent. See our results and growth timeline page.

FUE or FUT?

FUE avoids a linear scar. FUT removes a strip of scalp and can yield many grafts in one session. Your surgeon helps you choose. If you already have a donor scar from an older procedure, our medical SMP for transplant scars can help it blend in.

No-shave FUE

Keep your hairstyle while you restore

Most transplant methods ask you to shave at least part of your head. With the no-shave approach that HRS Atlanta calls Diamond Plus™ No Shave FUE, only the individual hairs picked for transplant are trimmed. Everything around them stays at its normal length, so your usual style can hide the work while you heal.

Who it tends to suit

  • People who can’t, or don’t want to, shave their head for work, such as people in public-facing jobs.
  • Anyone who wants to keep the procedure private.
  • Clients who wear longer styles and want to keep them.

What HRS Atlanta says to expect

  • Back to routine quickly: HRS says many patients return to work the next day.
  • No linear scar: grafts are taken one at a time, not in a strip.
  • Growth timeline: new growth is typically first noticed around 90 days, then keeps filling in gradually over the following year.

Where SMP fits

Some clients pair a transplant with scalp micropigmentation (SMP) from us to add the look of density between grafts or soften a hairline. See Hair Transplant + SMP, or compare with standard FUE and FUT.

FUT (strip) hair transplant

What FUT means

FUT stands for follicular unit transplantation, often called the strip method. The surgeon removes a thin, measured strip of scalp from the back of the head and closes the area with sutures. The strip is then divided under a microscope into small units of one to four hairs, which are placed into the thinning areas.

Why some people choose FUT

  • HRS Atlanta describes it as an efficient way to collect a large number of grafts in one session, which helps when a bigger area needs coverage.
  • Because grafts are cut from the strip rather than pulled one by one, HRS says there is a lower risk of damaging follicles during removal.
  • The back of the head doesn’t need to be shaved, and the surrounding hair covers the donor area.
  • HRS notes a lower cost per graft than some alternatives. Pricing is set by HRS at consultation.

The trade-off

Unlike FUE, the strip method leaves a line scar where the donor area was closed. If that scar ever shows with short hair, our medical SMP for transplant scars is designed to help it blend in.

Growth timeline

HRS Atlanta says the procedure is done in one day under local anesthesia, new growth typically begins around three months, and the full result is visible around twelve months. See our results and growth timeline.

African American hair transplants

Curly hair can be an advantage

Many people assume coily or curly hair makes a transplant harder to get. HRS Atlanta says the curl actually helps: each curled hair covers more of the scalp, so fewer grafts may be needed for a full look. HRS gives average donor density as about 60 follicles per square centimeter for African American patients, compared with about 80 for straight hair, and says the curl makes up for the difference.

Why experience matters

Below the skin, tightly coiled hair often curves in a C or J shape. Removing those follicles cleanly takes the right tools, angles and experience. HRS also notes that hairlines are often set lower and straighter, which affects the design.

Types of hair loss

  • Male and female pattern hair loss.
  • Traction alopecia from long-term tension, such as braids, weaves and extensions.
  • Some loss from scarring.
  • HRS cautions that some conditions, such as alopecia areata, may not respond well to a transplant.

Options and timeline

  • FUE or FUT, under local anesthesia in one outpatient session.
  • No-shave / shave-less FUE is available for men and women who want to keep their style.
  • HRS says most people return to non-strenuous work within one to two days, new growth often starts at three to four months, and full results show at eight to twelve months.
  • Because it’s your own hair, the new growth keeps your natural texture and curl.

Hair loss treatment for women

How women’s thinning usually looks

Women’s hair loss often looks different from men’s. Instead of a receding hairline, it tends to show as overall thinning across the top of the head, especially along the part, while the front hairline often stays in place.

Finding the cause comes first

HRS Atlanta lists many possible causes: hormone changes linked to pregnancy, menopause, thyroid problems or PCOS, plus genetics, nutrition, ongoing stress and some medical conditions. An evaluation may include your medical history, a scalp exam, trichoscopy (a magnified look at the scalp) and blood work. HRS is clear that not every woman with thinning is a good transplant candidate.

If a transplant is right for you

  • Grafts are taken with FUE or FUT under local anesthesia, in a single outpatient session.
  • HRS says most patients are back to normal activity within a few days.
  • Transplanted hairs commonly shed in the first two to three weeks, which is a normal step. New growth typically starts around three months and fills in over about the next nine months.

Non-surgical choices

Options include PRP and laser therapy. With us, SMP for women adds the look of density along the part and crown without surgery.

PRP hair therapy

What PRP is

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. A small amount of your own blood is drawn from your arm and spun in a centrifuge. The layer rich in platelets and growth factors is then injected into the thinning areas of the scalp to encourage weak follicles to grow stronger hair.

Good to know

  • Non-surgical: no incisions and no grafts. HRS Atlanta says a session usually takes under an hour, and most people go back to normal activities the same day.
  • Who it may suit: per HRS, it tends to work best for mild to moderate thinning where follicles are still active, and less well for advanced baldness.
  • How often: HRS says most patients start with three to four sessions about a month apart, then maintenance every 6 to 12 months.
  • When you may see a change: HRS says improvements usually appear within 3 to 6 months.
  • Side effects: HRS lists temporary tenderness, redness, swelling or slight bruising.
  • Regulatory status: HRS notes that PRP is not FDA-cleared specifically for hair loss and is used off-label by licensed physicians.

Combining treatments

HRS says PRP is often paired with low-level laser therapy, medication or a hair transplant. For the look of fuller hair right away, some clients also consider SMP for men or SMP for women.

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT)

What LLLT is

Low-level laser therapy uses gentle, specific wavelengths of light on the scalp. HRS Atlanta describes it as FDA-cleared, non-surgical and painless. The light is meant to boost blood flow to the follicles and nudge them into the active growth phase, for thicker strands and less shedding.

How it’s done

  • Options range from in-clinic sessions to take-home laser caps and helmets.
  • HRS says at-home devices are usually worn for 20 to 30 minutes at a time, several times a week.
  • No needles, no prep and no recovery time.

What to expect

Consistency matters. HRS says most people first notice less shedding within a few months, with better thickness and density building over six to twelve months of regular use. It’s best suited to mild to moderate pattern hair loss, and it slows loss rather than reversing it overnight.

Pairing it with other options

LLLT can be used alone or with PRP, medication or after a transplant. HRS Atlanta offers a prescription-strength laser cap. Call us at (404) 229-7372 to ask. You can also browse our hair growth products.

Results and growth timeline

A typical timeline

Patience is part of the process. Here is the general pattern HRS Atlanta describes across its transplant pages:

  • Day of the procedure: done in a single outpatient day under local anesthesia.
  • First days: many people return to normal routines quickly. HRS says many no-shave FUE patients return to work the next day.
  • Weeks 2–3: transplanted hairs commonly shed. This is a normal part of the growth cycle.
  • Around 3 months: new growth typically starts to show (HRS says three to four months for many African American patients).
  • Months 8–12: the result continues to fill in, with the full result typically visible around the one-year mark.

Adding density with SMP

A transplant grows real hair, and SMP adds the look of density between hairs. Many clients plan SMP after the scalp has healed. Learn more on Hair Transplant + SMP.

Quick answers

Does FUE leave a scar?

FUE does not leave a linear strip scar because grafts are taken one at a time. HRS Atlanta says the donor area heals within days.

How long does an FUE transplant take?

HRS Atlanta says the procedure is done in a single day under local anesthesia.

Do I have to shave my head for no-shave FUE?

No. HRS Atlanta says only the hairs chosen for transplant are trimmed, and the surrounding hair stays at its normal length.

When will I see growth after no-shave FUE?

HRS Atlanta says growth is typically first noticed around 90 days and continues gradually over the following year. Results vary.

What is the difference between FUT and FUE?

FUT removes a thin strip of scalp and divides it into grafts, which leaves a line scar. FUE takes grafts one at a time, which avoids a line scar.

Can SMP hide a FUT scar?

Scalp micropigmentation can help a strip scar blend in with the surrounding hair. Call (404) 229-7372 to ask about scar camouflage.

Do hair transplants work on Afro-textured hair?

Yes, with an experienced surgeon. HRS Atlanta says the curl of the hair covers more scalp, so fewer grafts may be needed.

Can traction alopecia be treated with a transplant?

HRS Atlanta lists traction alopecia, from braids, weaves and extensions, among the types of hair loss a transplant can address. An evaluation is required.
