Hair Transplant in Atlanta: Working as a Team With HRS Atlanta
We have teamed up with Hair Restoration Specialists of Atlanta (HRS Atlanta) so clients who want growing hair—not only the look of density—can explore a surgical hair transplant alongside our scalp micropigmentation (SMP) work.
Hair transplants are performed by Hair Restoration Specialists of Atlanta. SMP, hairline design refinement, density fill between grafts, and donor-scar camouflage are provided by us. Both are listed at the same Sandy Springs address. A consultation is required before any procedure. Results vary by donor supply, hair texture, scalp condition, and healing; we do not promise a specific density or appearance.

Focus on Black men & women
Transplants for Textured and Coily Hair
Afro-textured and coily hair has a curved follicle path under the skin. That affects how grafts are harvested and placed, how a hairline should be shaped, and how density reads once hair grows in. Curl also creates more visual coverage per graft than straight hair of the same count—but donor supply is still limited, and over-harvesting can leave permanent thin spots.
Common goals we hear from Black men and Black women considering a transplant through our team include:
- Hairline design that respects a natural, age-appropriate edge rather than a sharp “new” hairline
- Temple and recession fill where pattern loss or wear has opened the hairline
- Crown and mid-scalp density when donor hair allows
- Traction alopecia areas (for example edges and temples related to tight styles)—candidacy depends on whether the scalp still has healthy follicles and enough donor hair
- Women’s sides and part lines, where thinning can show through styled hair; see also our SMP for women’s sides work
Keloid or hypertrophic scarring risk is higher for some people with darker skin. That is a medical discussion with the surgical team at HRS Atlanta before any incision or punch work. We can discuss how SMP later helps soften the look of donor or recipient scars if they remain visible after healing.

Information from HRS Atlanta
Hair Transplant Options at HRS Atlanta
According to HRS Atlanta, the practice has over 45 years of experience in hair restoration and serves men and women of all ethnicities, including African American patients. HRS says it offers free consultations, either virtual or in-office, and financing options including CareCredit.
Diamond Plus™ No-Shave FUE
According to HRS Atlanta, its Diamond Plus™ No-Shave FUE method lets patients have an FUE transplant without shaving the donor or recipient areas. Only the follicles being moved are trimmed, so the surrounding hair stays at its usual length. HRS presents this as a discreet option for people who want to keep their style, including professionals in public-facing roles. HRS says there is no linear scar with FUE and that many patients return to work the next day. It also says new growth typically starts around 90 days and continues gradually over the following year. Read HRS Atlanta’s No-Shave FUE page.
PRP (platelet-rich plasma)
According to HRS Atlanta, PRP is a non-surgical treatment. A small blood sample is drawn and spun in a centrifuge, and the concentrated plasma is injected into thinning areas of the scalp. HRS describes it as best suited to mild-to-moderate thinning where follicles are still active. It notes that PRP is not FDA-cleared specifically for hair loss and is used off-label under physician supervision. HRS says sessions usually take under an hour, often start as a series spaced about a month apart with periodic maintenance afterwards, and can be combined with laser therapy, medication or a transplant. Common side effects HRS lists are temporary tenderness, redness, swelling or bruising. Read HRS Atlanta’s PRP page.
Options for women
According to HRS Atlanta, female pattern hair loss usually shows up as diffuse thinning along the part and top of the scalp rather than a receding hairline. HRS links it to factors such as hormones (pregnancy, menopause, thyroid conditions, PCOS), genetics, nutrition and stress. HRS says a thorough evaluation, which may include scalp examination, trichoscopy and blood work, comes first, and that not every woman with thinning is a good transplant candidate. For suitable candidates it offers FUE or FUT under local anesthesia, plus non-surgical options such as PRP. Read HRS Atlanta’s women’s hair loss page.
Coily and Afro-textured hair
According to HRS Atlanta, tightly coiled follicles curve beneath the skin, so extraction calls for a team experienced with this hair type. HRS says the natural curl can give more coverage per graft, and that transplanted hair keeps the texture of your own donor hair. It also notes that traction alopecia from braids, weaves and extensions is a common cause of loss it evaluates, and that some conditions, such as alopecia areata, may not respond well to transplantation. HRS says it offers No-Shave / Shave-Less FUE for African American men and women. Read HRS Atlanta’s African American hair restoration page.

What SMP Can Add After a Transplant
Many transplant patients later come to us for SMP to soften donor scars or sharpen a hairline. These photos show that SMP work, done at our studio.

About these photos: These are real scalp micropigmentation (SMP) results from our own clients. They are not hair transplant results, and they are not HRS Atlanta patients. Individual results vary.

How FUE works (overview)
What to Expect From an FUE Hair Transplant
FUE removes individual follicular units from a donor area (usually the back and sides of the scalp) and places them into thinning or bare areas. Unlike strip (FUT) surgery, FUE does not remove a long strip of scalp, so it does not leave a single linear donor scar—though tiny punch marks still heal in the donor zone and can be visible with a very short cut.
HRS Atlanta describes FUE as a same-day outpatient procedure under local anesthesia, with new growth often starting around three months and fuller results developing over the following months. Exact timing and outcomes vary. Their site also describes a no-shave or partial-shave option intended to keep the procedure more discreet for some patients.
Important: This page is educational. It is not a surgical plan. Only HRS Atlanta can evaluate donor density, medical history, and whether FUE (or another option) is appropriate for you.
When SMP still helps
Transplant Alone vs. Transplant + SMP
A transplant moves real, growing hair. It cannot create unlimited density if the donor area is limited—and many clients still want the look of fuller coverage between grafts, a sharper hairline edge, or camouflage over donor marks. That is where our SMP comes in.
Read about combining both approaches on our Hair Transplant + SMP page, or about scar coverage alone on Medical SMP for Transplant Scars.
Next step
How to Start
For transplant or transplant + SMP, call HRS Atlanta at (404) 231-3100 or visit hrsatl.com. For SMP-only services, call us at (404) 229-7372. Not sure which you need? Tell us whether you are exploring a transplant, SMP, or both. We will help you understand how our team works and point you to the right consultation. Surgical consults and pricing for transplants are handled by HRS Atlanta; SMP consults and pricing are handled by us.
Medical note: Hair transplant surgery involves risks (infection, poor growth, shock loss, scarring, unnatural appearance if poorly planned). A free or paid consult at the surgical clinic does not guarantee you are a candidate. Results are not guaranteed.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you perform the hair transplant at your studio?
No. Surgical hair transplants through our team are performed by Hair Restoration Specialists of Atlanta at their Sandy Springs location. We provide SMP and related non-surgical density and scar-camouflage work.
Is a hair transplant permanent?
Transplanted follicles taken from DHT-resistant donor areas often continue to grow long-term in many patients, but individual results vary. Non-transplanted native hair can keep thinning over time, which is why some people later add SMP or further medical treatment.
Can Black men and women get FUE?
Yes—many people with Afro-textured hair undergo FUE. Curl pattern, follicle shape, scarring tendency, and donor supply must be evaluated carefully by the surgical team. Ask HRS Atlanta specifically about experience with textured hair during your consult.
What about women’s sides and traction alopecia?
Some women are candidates for grafting into thinned sides, temples, or traction areas if enough donor hair exists and the scalp is healthy. Others are better served by SMP alone or a combined plan. We discuss both paths; surgery candidacy is decided at HRS Atlanta.
How much does a hair transplant cost?
We do not list transplant prices here. Cost depends on graft count, technique, and your plan at HRS Atlanta. Ask them directly during consultation. For SMP pricing, contact us.
